Analyse HOFA

Songwriting & Arrangement:

You submitted a very long and chilled out instrumental guitar song. We like the musical theme but in total your song seems a little unstructured and the arrangement appears a bit random. You should try to make the structure of the song a bit more clear. A good song needs a climax, rises, verses, downparts, etc. to reach a musical dynamic. The final of your song seems a bit strange. There are more and more musical voices but the function of these additional elements are not always quite clear. You should really give theses elements a clear musical function to get a well-organized sonic image for your song.

We noticed that your song has a very flat suspense curve. It makes sense to separate the different passages of the song, in order to give the listener a feeling of suspense. Therefore the song has a more captivating effect. Music lives primarily from contrasts, otherwise you can't develop a certain vibe.

Unfortunately, the song has become quite long. Most listeners will find it difficult to concentrate throughout the entire length of the song. In popular music styles it usually makes sense to follow a song length of 3.5 minutes so that the song can also be heard on the radio. You can also make a slightly longer album version, but even in this case the first 3.5 minutes of the song should contain the most important passages.

Recording / Performance:

Since many of the sounds used were created "in the box", we can't say much about the recording and the musical performance. However, the tracks are all neatly programmed. Unfortunately we noticed some quite cheap sounding virtual instruments in your song. Especially the flute in the end of your song sounds very unnatural and artificial. You'll certainly find better sounds here. ;)

The guitar playing is well done. The timing is not always perfect but still the guitar work isn't bad at all. We noticed that some of the used sounds seem a little cheap and technical though. You could choose more dynamic and interesting guitar sounds as these are of course very important for this musical style.

The overall sound of your mix is a bit too "boomy", i.e. the low frequency ranges are too pronounced. This problem can be solved with an EQ on the corresponding tracks. That's mainly the loud bass in this case.

The wah-wah effect on the guitar is sometimes a little childish and playful. Sometimes less is more. ;)

Otherwise the mix is well done - the volume ratio, depth and frequency response are well balanced and are very suitable for this genre. Nonetheless the overall sonic image of your mix appears a bit chaotic which can be traced to the lack of clear structure and musical functions in your composition.

The following screenshot shows a picture of a spectral analyser where you see the frequency curves of your mix. The lower curve describes the average energy level, whereas the upper curve shows the corresponding peak hold per band:
