Analyse HOFA

Songwriting & Arrangement:

This song is a good example for a folk song wie guitars. Unfortunately, not all notes fit perfectly. When writing songs, you should make sure that the rules of harmony are not violated (this should only happen under certain conditions). Unfortunately, even an untrained ear will notice wrong notes. If you want to use a note that isn't part of the scale, it should be resolved as fast as possible, so that the listener perceives the result as musically correct.

Recording / Performance:

Unfortunately, the guitar does not play as tight as you would expect it from this kind of tune. During the recording session you should make sure that the instruments are played as tight as possible. When the instruments were recorded properly, you can further edit them in your DAW, e.g. by time-stretching, etc. However, make sure that the processing does not sound unnatural and remains as inaudible as possible. The intonation of the vocals is not always perfect. Here you can place a little more emphasis on detail during the recording and, if necessary, use pitch correction during post-processing.

We noticed that your mix is a bit resonant in the mids. Try to make narrow reductions in the dominant frequency ranges with an EQ. An analyzer can be helpful to determine the corresponding frequency. Even a narrow-band sweep with an EQ will quickly show you where the problem lies. The sibilants (S-sounds) of your vocals are a bit too pronounced. As a result, they appear somewhat "sharp". You can use a de-esser or a dynamic EQ to get this problem under control. We noticed that the reverb you used is not quite optimal for the song. In this case you have used relatively much reverb, which makes the instruments seem a little too indirect. In future, be careful not to place too much emphasis on reverb so that the instruments sound more direct.

The following screenshot shows a picture of a spectral analyser where you see the frequency curves of your mix. The lower curve describes the average energy level, whereas the upper curve shows the corresponding peak hold per band:
